Supplier Diversity

Michels Corporation, including our operating divisions and subsidiaries, considers diversity in the workforce to be a way of conducting good business practices.

We are committed to recruiting, developing, assisting, using and retaining a diverse group of material suppliers and subcontracting partners to help Michels deliver construction solutions nationwide. We continually provide opportunities for small, diverse businesses to secure business through Michels’ contracts and purchase orders. In addition, Michels continually supports the growth and development of minority, women and small business by mentoring local uncertified businesses through the process of certification.

We are able to connect with many businesses by attending regular networking events. This gives us opportunities to build partnerships with other organizations. We are partnered with the Wisconsin, Iowa and Central Illinois Supplier Development Council to further develop our relationship with minority suppliers and other businesses connected with the council.

Each year Michels hosts a supplier diversity symposium. To learn more, click here. Michels Corporation continues its commitment and outreach through the creation of our Supplier Diversity Program. This ensures that disadvantaged businesses are not excluded from participating in supplying of goods or services for our contracts.

Michels is not a traditional manufacturing organization so our construction material and equipment requirements are very broad. They range from small-scale buys to major procurements and contracts. Michels employees are committed to seeking out quality and competitive disadvantaged suppliers and subcontractors.  We are responsible for ensuring that equitable and fair opportunities are provided to small, disadvantaged businesses, and women- and minority-owned businesses to compete for purchase order awards. It is the policy of Michels to award orders to these businesses if all aspects, including price and delivery, are equal or more favorable.

Michels maintains a database of all women, minority and small disadvantaged certified businesses. This is utilized to contact suppliers for our projects across the United States. Once a contract is in place with the supplier, we maintain accurate calculation reporting based on a Tier 1 and Tier 2 spending. We supply this information to our clients, potential clients and other reporting institutions. These numbers are analyzed by our Corporate Diversity Committee yearly and, based on those numbers, goals are set for the upcoming year. Michels solicits new suppliers through councils, referrals, submissions and supplier fairs. This process is a part of our standard operating procedures.
