Michels Corporation was one of five Wisconsin companies recently honored with a Wisconsin Corporate Citizenship Award for its efforts in the areas of environmental stewardship, promoting diversity, and relations with customers, employees and the communities in which the company works.
Michels received the award from Corporate Report Wisconsin, a Wisconsin-based publication with a focus on corporate sustainability. The award was presented in a ceremony featuring former Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison on Oct. 6.
Michels has worked diligently to improve its performance in a number of key sustainability areas in the past five years, particularly environmental stewardship.
The Michels Environmental Resource Group (MERG) has succeeded in reducing Michels’ waste by nearly 30 percent since 2007, and Michels further partnered with Trout Unlimited to assist in the restoration of the Onion River in Sheboygan County to commemorate Earth Day 2011.
Along with Michels, Miron Construction Co. of Neenah, Standard Imaging of Middleton, Madison-based Tri-North Builders and the Madison Concourse Hotel & Governor’s Club were selected for the award by a panel of multi-disciplinary judges.
