Lake Michigan Revetment and Cove

Michels Construction, Inc. built a 600-linear-foot revetment wall and a 75-foot groin structure along Lake Michigan to stabilize the shoreline and prevent erosion caused by record high water levels on the Great Lakes.

The privately owned shoreline is located at the bottom of a steep, inaccessible slope, which required marine mobilization of all equipment and material via barge. Shipments and schedules were frequently adjusted due to rough weather. The project required a large cache of marine equipment, including five material barges, two spud barges, two large lake tugboats, and one shallow draft truckable tug.

Michels Construction, Inc. procured and installed material to create the sloped revetment, which included a newly created cove and beach.
