4 ways to build around and under an active bridge structure
In the heart of Chicago, the Wolf Point property in city of big shoulders’ posh River North neighborhood was the subject of many development proposals over the years. Finally in 2012, plans emerged for the $1 billion project to be constructed on the 3.9-acre site on the north east side of the Y-shaped confluence of the north, south and main branches of the Chicago River. The catch? The development would start with construction of a 5,600-square-foot (225’ x 25’) garage underneath an existing bridge structure that needed to remain open at all times.
