DOT recognizes Michels for excellence

Excavators and dump trucks work to remove crushed aggregates from between two busy highways

We are honored to be recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) for work on the Interstate 94 North-South Freeway project in Racine and Kenosha counties. Congratulations to our crews and partners who earned the 2019 Excellence in Construction Large Contract Award for working tirelessly to improve safety and ease transportation in this vital corridor. Communication, planning, teamwork, and coordination are lynchpins of all transportation improvement projects. A project of this massive scope amplifies their importance.

The complex project involved reconstruction of 11 miles of roadway, expanding it to provide eight lanes with full concrete shoulders. In addition, four new interchanges and 18 new bridges were constructed.

IH-94 is the main transportation link between Milwaukee and Chicago. The Interstate-94 North-South project was completed under an accelerated 17-month schedule in three major stages, while maintaining three lanes of traffic in each direction.

Thank you to WisDOT for giving us an opportunity to showcase Michels’ abilities to tackle large-scale projects and to the surrounding communities that worked closely with us. Congratulations to the six other contractors also recognized for their work on Wisconsin roadways.
