Celebrating Earth Day's Golden Anniversary
Fighting the spread of COVID-19 has forced many of us to spend more time indoors and away from large groups of people than we’d like. The 50th anniversary of Earth Day today is a time to celebrate the environment and the many ways we are protecting it.
Doing quality work in a safe and environmentally responsible way is part of our daily operations, as evidenced by our Core Values. We demonstrate environmental excellence in many ways, always with a focus on improving performance. Our commitment to continuous improvement and innovation extends far beyond our infrastructure and energy construction expertise; it includes our support facilities, equipment and projects.
Among many initiatives, we are:
- Adding recycled-water cleaning trucks to our pipe rehabilitation operations.
- Modifying medium and heavy duty trucks with shutoff monitors to reduce idling times.
- Revitalizing an abandoned industrial site with the development of a mixed use office, residential and retail project near Milwaukee’s harbor.
- Participating in a program that recognizes successes and sets benchmarks for future environmental performance.
Governmental guidelines related to flattening the COVID-19 curve have forced us to cancel many of the group activities we had planned to commemorate Earth Day. Instead, we encourage our people, their families and everyone to take part in safe, healthy activities of their choosing to improve the world around us.
