Education key part of Michels' mission
Kids learn about aggregates, mining
Michels is committed to education. That extends to our people, our customers, the residents of communities in which we work, and even our next generation of potential workers and customers.
Michels is currently holding six all-day field trips for area elementary school students at the 74-acre Eden quarry in which we produce aggregate. Michels jointly conducts the tours with the two other stone companies that mine different products in the dolomitic limestone quarry.
For the fifth year, more than 300 kids are getting a birds-eye view of quarry operations and are participating in hands-on activities that teach them about geology, road building, fossils, safety and environmental stewardship.
The outdoor classroom environment provides a fun, educational way for the students to learn about the importance of quarries and the many ways their products are vital to everyday life.
