Power of People
Michels is known for success on the most-challenging projects, our spider web of jobsites, and even our large collection of red pickup trucks – but we are most proud of and committed to the continued development of our people.
More than 600 attended this week the 16thannual Michels Leadership Conference in Milwaukee to augment leadership skills and embrace Michels’ culture of excellence, safety and teamwork.
This year’s theme – Power of People – was particularly appropriate for Michels, which has grown to become one of the largest, most diversified utility contractors in North America. That growth is guided by a continually expanding group of foremen, superintendents, project managers and other leaders who take seriously their responsibilities to ensuring quality, developing a skilled workforce, spearheading successful projects and adhering to Michels’ corporate values.
The Leadership Conference provides tools and training to help Michels’ leaders guide and develop their talented teams. This year’s conference included presentations and panel discussions on a wide range of topics, including safety, quality and communications. Presenters included NBA All-Star Mark Eaton, who offered four keys to successful teamwork, and Marine pilot Wes Sharp, who discussed ways to create and sustain operational excellence. Michels’ own people also shared tips and insights gained over the years on the job to help teach and motivate colleagues of all ages and experience levels.
The conference also provides opportunities for participants to network and learn more about the capabilities of Michels’ many divisions.
Michels was founded on a spirit of excellence and ingenuity, both of which will continue to be its hallmark, said Pat Michels, President. The Leadership Conference is one way to ensure that all leaders are in lockstep with goals and expectations, and also to provide training to help individuals and teams meet those goals. Many other training opportunities are provided throughout the year.
