Right place, right time, right decision
A decision to take a road less traveled allowed two Michels crew members to react quickly to an emergency situation. The crew decided to take a gravel road while traveling in Iowa. About 1½ miles down the road, the crew members noticed two people in the road and a car rolled over and on fire in the ditch.
Arriving at the scene, the crew member asked if 911 had been notified and made the call. At the same time, he handed the truck’s fire extinguisher to the other crew member, who put out the fire. Although the 16-year-old driver had been wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, both Michels crew members waited until paramedics, police and the girl’s father arrived on the scene before continuing on to the substation.
