Westphal inducted into NASTT Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Robert Westphal, Senior Construction Advisor, who was inducted into the North American Society of Trenchless Technology (NASTT) Hall of Fame during the No-Dig Show in Chicago on Tuesday.
Bob has been an integral part of Michels and the trenchless construction industry for 53 years, advancing through the ranks from laborer to superintendent, project manager, vice president and senior vice president.
Bob has been, and remains, a driving force in the management and strategic growth of several of Michels’ industry-leading operating divisions. His hard work and strategic guidance have contributed to Michels’ growth in the United States and Canada.
In the trenchless industry, Bob led Michels entry into Horizontal Directional Drilling in 1986. He continues to champion Michels’ advancement in the trenchless technologies of HDD, Direct Pipe, tunneling, microtunneling, pipe rehabilitation and pipeline construction.
Craig Vandaelle, General Manager of Alternative Delivery and Business Development in our Tunneling group, spoke for all of us when he introduced Bob at the ceremony: "Bob’s presence is felt well beyond Michels. He is the paragon of fortitude in a tumultuous business. In the early days of HDD, he showed customers how this new technology was the preferred method for challenging crossings. Today, nearly 54 years later, he remains a champion of the trenchless construction industry."
