North Bakken Expansion

Michels Pipeline, Inc. was awarded construction of 63 miles of 24-inch, 30 miles of 12-inch, a half-mile of 20-inch, and a half-mile of 8-inch steel pipeline as well as 11 launcher/receiver barrels and six mainline values. Crews completed 70 bores and 38 horizontal directional drills under roads, waterways, and other environmentally sensitive areas.
Michels Pipeline also provided pipe support services to Michels Trenchless, Inc. for a 15,426-foot HDD of a 24-inch diameter pipe under Lake Sakakawea on the Missouri River. The 0.990-inch-thick pipe was assembled and pulled into place in two sections—one of 15,000 feet and one of 426 feet.
The North Bakken Expansion Project provides at least an additional 200 million cubic feet per day of natural gas takeaway capacity for the Bakken and Three Forks formations, helping reduce natural gas flaring.
