Are you a Civil Engineering Co-op Student who is looking for hands-on exposure to world-class heavy civil projects? Our Co-op student placements are a big deal! We want to teach you how the business runs, how changing circumstances are handled, and who to contact when there are questions. During your Co-op term with Michels, we will be looking for your ability to logically assess situations and develop recommended solutions. To be successful in the Winter 4-month work term, you will engage your teammates, actively seek opportunities to support our projects, and identify areas of improvement by using your creative approach to problem-solving.

Your role will look a little like this…
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Collecting and organizing historical data after closing projects and entering into a database using set nomenclature.
- Compile information from existing systems and transferring to SharePoint or other databases as directed.
- Assist with technical writing for bids and proposals.
- Work with potential subcontractors and assist in identifying technical solutions to support the project team.
- Learn how to perform quantity take-offs and develop scope of work to obtain pricing and workplans from internal stakeholders and subcontractors.
- Develop an understanding of contracts through various project phases.
- Assist project leadership with coordination of activities to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
- Help track compliance with company quality requirements and standards.
- Create and update short term schedules.
- Assist with purchasing needs and the purchase requisition process.
- Assist with generating Request for Information (RFI) and submittals.
- Provide planning, reporting, and forecasting support to project leadership.
- Track permanent materials and bulk commodities per established procedure.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- If you can use AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, BlueBeam, or MS Excel you will be in great shape!
- Must be a registered student currently in the process of completing Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree.
- We would prefer students looking for a 4 month work term.
- Must be willing to participate, have fun, ask questions, and apply knowledge every day!
