DESCRIPTION

The Corporate HSE Assurance Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of all back-end systems to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices. This role focuses on enabling efficient and effective field operations by implementing robust HSE systems, processes, and controls. This position will be based out of our Head Office located in Nisku, Alberta.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions. Stop work in the area of an identified health or safety problem until resolved.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of all HSEQ systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to assess compliance with HSE policies and identify areas for improvement.
  • Analyze data and trends to identify potential risks, hazards, or non-compliance issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with HSE team members, department managers, and employees to promote a strong safety culture and provide guidance on HSE requirements.
  • Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to HSE performance and prepare reports for management review.
  • Provide HSE training and awareness programs to employees, contractors, and visitors to ensure understanding of HSE policies and procedures.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and occupational health issues, analyzing root causes and recommending preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and crisis management strategies.
  • Collaborate with external regulatory agencies, contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with HSE requirements and standards.
  • Uphold company culture and core values by adhering to Michels Canada’s Standards and Policies and working with others to promote and preserve our values while conducting your duties to contribute to a positive and professional work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering) or equivalent work experience.
    • Proven experience in HSE management systems, compliance, and assurance, preferably in a related industry.
    • Familiarity with federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations and standards.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex data.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate HSEQ concepts to various stakeholders.
    • Professional certifications in relevant disciplines (e.g., Canadian Registered Safety Professional).

    DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
    • Experience working with PowerBI, and related software is an asset.
    • Experience with a construction contractor is preferred.

    LANGUAGES

    • Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
