DESCRIPTION
Michels Canada is looking for a Yard Labourer to support our teams as we ramp up equipment for major projects in the field. This is a temporary position ending December 2023.
Michels Canada prides itself on safe operations and owns over 1500 units of fleet equipment from heavy iron to rolling stock. Our yard requires self-motivated and safety-minded yard hands to load and unload equipment, as well as help with equipment set ups in preparation for mobilization.
In this role, you will work with the yard foreman, and mechanical and electrical leads, as well as third party service providers such as truck drivers and other vendors/suppliers. This position requires you to maintain a positive and professional attitude, while upholding our commitment to safety at all times. This position is based in Nisku AB.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Assist with the spotting for trucks and heavy equipment.
- Assist yard teams with loading and unloading of materials and specialty equipment.
- Supports with the assembly of specialized equipment (tunneling boring machines, mud plant systems).
- Maintains a tidy work area for yard activities and ensures equipment lay down areas are prepped and cleared of debris.
- Other duties as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- 1-2 years outside heavy labour experience; farmhand or industrial yard labourer experience is preferred but not required.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks, with the ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to work outside year round in all weather conditions.
- Must possess a friendly attitude with a team player mindset.
- Must demonstrate personal value commitment to safety
DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to lift 50lb
- Organization and communication skills
- Must demonstrate the ability to work well with others in a team setting as well as independently with limited supervision.
- Forklift or other material handling operator certificates would be an asset
EDUCATION
- Highschool diploma or GED
LANGUAGES
- Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
