16-inch Cedar River Bore HDD

Michels Utility Services, Inc. partnered with Michels Trenchless, Inc. to install a 16-inch distribution main under the Cedar River. The project included approximately 1,200 feet of horizontal directional drilling under the river and 500 feet of open-cut trenching on either side of the bore. The project allows service to continue after a bridge onto which the main had been secured to was replaced.

The Cedar River bore contained a significant amount of rock, which required careful planning. Because the project was in a residential area, precautions were taken to reduce the noise impact to the residents.
