Direct Pipe® project among year’s best

A group of pipe-layer machines hoist a large pipeline in the air leading to a Direct Pipe rig.

Michels Corporation is proud to continue our tradition of excellence in trenchless installations, honored as the runner-up in Trenchless Technology’s 2016 Project of the Year competition.

We were recognized for successfully completing a Direct Pipe® installation in Freeport, TX, that stretched the use of the emerging method. The 48-inch diameter steel pipe spanned 4,038 feet, passing under a levee and the Dow Barge Canal. Michels suggested using Direct Pipe® to meet the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers environmental and technical requirements for drilling under a levee.

The project is the longest Direct Pipe® installation completed in North America, eclipsing the previous record by 500 feet.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized for this project that stretches the limits of infrastructure construction,” said Tim Michels, co-owner.

Congratulations to everyone who played a role in this outstanding accomplishment!
