Scope

Michels rehabilitated a deteriorated culvert beneath the coal pile of an active power plant. Joint repairs on the culvert were completed prior to the application of a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) wrap to reinforced and strengthened the existing culvert structure. Michels self-preformed the installation of gravel access roads, 50-foot cofferdams, up to 18" bypass pumps and the dewatering of 4 million gallons of water to keep the work area dry from ground water in the repair process. Evacuation of the area was not possible due to the location of the coal pile above the culvert.

Projects

Michels rehabilitated a deteriorating corrugated metal pipe culvert under a busy roadway. Michels prepared the walls and floor and completed the spray application of 3-inch Millikin Geospray geopolymer mortar to the 128-inch-by-73-inch-by-75-foot culvert. In total, 68,000 pounds of material was mixed and applied.

Michels installed 180 feet of a cured in place pipe liner into a 60-inch segmental reinforced concrete culvert to restore its hydraulic integrity and repair areas where concrete was spalling and reinforcing steel was exposed.
