Eastover Road Substation EPC

Eastover Road Substation EPC

Scope

Michels engineered, procured and constructed a new 230kV/115kV substation in upstate New York. The Eastover Road Substation includes one 333 MVA transformer with expansion capability for a second one. Circuit breakers and line terminals were installed on both the 115kV and 230kV sides. As EPC prime contractor on the project and involvement in the project from conception to completion, Michels was able to incorporate value engineering and safety by design.

Projects

Michels worked with an East Coast utility company to transform a 240-acre site on top of a closed coal mine into a 230kV electrical substation. Michels constructed 240 7-inch micropiles with rock sockets and drilled 190 shafts with rock sockets.

Michels built 214 30-inch-diameter secant piles and 200 driven pipe piles, and excavated more than 7,000 cubic yards of soil to house a power substation, extending 13 feet below the ground and under a to-be-constructed seven-story mixed-use development near the Summerfest grounds. The substation strengthens downtown Milwaukee's power grid without interfering with tenants of the building above it
