Michels installed a 4,000-foot land-to-land and a 1,600-foot water-to-land installation of 16-inch pipe segments in Beverly Harbor and tidelands in Collins Cove. The project was an extension of a natural gas pipeline Michels installed about a dozen years ago. Two drill rigs were used on each project to allow drilling to be connected from each end of the alignment and intersect underground. The longer bore was complicated by a 35-degree side bend along its alignment. The shorter bore had a steep 20-degree angle of entry to quickly reach bedrock instead of silty soils.
