Scope
Michels performed a dam removal and river restoration project on the Kalamazoo River in Ceresco, Michigan. This project involved notching of the existing control structure to slowly draw down the river levels into a newly dredge channel. Following the draw down process, Michels removed, stabilized and properly disposed of approximately 13,000 tons of petroleum contaminated soil within the forebay area. After the remediation process was completed, the remaining portions of the dam were removed and the river restored. Michels restored approximately four miles of the river upstream from the dam as well as stabilizing and restoring the riverbank.
