Michels installed 197 miles of mainline fiber and 52 miles of service entrances. The project took place over 250 square miles of rolling hills, several creeks and into 4 different counties in Oklahoma. Directional boring techniques were utilized in any deep terrain or slopes. The service entrances were performed with smaller equipment and at a shallower depth due to the private property locations.
Crews encountered large amounts of rock during this project. Several pieces of equipment, such as a large Cat D8 ripper dozer, rock hammer and rock saw were used to cut through the geology and complete the installation.
Pipelines were also frequently encountered in the surrounding work areas, nearly 3 to 5 per mile. Pipeline exploration areas required a large amount of support staff running up and down the roads with trucks.
