Scope

Michels performed heavy civil earthwork, concrete installation and storm sewer construction for two crossovers linking a taxiway with a runway. After completion of the two new 200-foot crossovers, Michels removed the original ones. Michels placed 16 inches of concrete on top of asphalt and rebar and installed a 12-inch concrete drain pipe when grading the area to ensure proper water drainage. Crews and equipment complied with Federal Aviation Association (FAA) security standards and worked as close as 250 feet from the center of a live runway.

Michels was the prime contractor for a reconstruction at the Kenosha Regional Airport. Michels performed all excavation, pipe underdrain, aggregate placing, concrete pavement, and topsoil operations to completely reconstruct and extend the main east/west runway and taxiway for the
airport. The runway was extended 1,100 feet to allow for larger aircraft to safely land and take off.
