Scope
Michels used a specialized tool mounted to a track hoe to install 960,000 lineal feet of wick drain on the Highway 41-441 corridor expansion project. The dual phase project consisted of installing 600,000 lineal feet of wick drain in 2015 and 360,000 lineal feet in 2016, totaling to approximately 25,000 drills. The wick drains were driven between 35 and 40 feet deep. The wick drains were installed in an engineered and flagged array that dramatically speeds up soil consolidation by providing an artificial vertical passage for the migration of trapped pore water.
