Scope

Michels Construction, Inc. designed and installed the earth retention for the Market Square development in Cleveland, Ohio. The project required earth retention to accommodate the 2 levels of parking below grade. One unique aspect of the project is that the sheeting on the project will remain exposed and act as the permanent exterior basement wall.

Michels installed 1,200 linear feel of sheeting around the full exterior of the building utilizing the ABI. A single row of 124 hollowbar tie-backs were installed to temporarily support the sheeting while the permanent interior concrete structure was installed. Despite existing utility challenges, the project was completed on time.

Michels built 458 secant piles and 100 caissons in 90 days for a 10-story, 600,000-square-foot building on the site of the new McDonald's corporate headquarters.

Michels scope of work is to install 242 drilled shafts to support the piers for anew bridge. The installation of the drilled shafts was completed with the simultaneous use of up to four drill rigs. Utilizing barges, 233 drilled shafts were installed in the river. Michels crews also installed 7-foot and 10-foot permanent steel casing into bedrock for each shaft.

Michels installed 857 H-piles 60 feet deep to bedrock for a deep foundation system for the R1VER project, a mixed-use waterfront development.

Michels installed various forms of earth retention systems using steel sheet pile, secant shafts and drilled shafts. The customer required deep foundations in an area with a high water table. The earth retention systems Michels installed allowed crews to pour the foundations in a dry working area.
