Scope
Michels Construction, Inc. designed and installed an Earth Retention System (ERS) for a new pedestrian tunnel that was bored under three live rail lines. The ERS consisted of 600,000 pounds of hot-rolled sheets as well as 100,000 pounds of structural steel for internal bracing.
Michels Construction expedited the project by using two of its
ABI Mobirams equipped with vibratory hammers to simultaneously install sheets on the east and west sides of the track. Sheeting lines were located 9 feet from the centerline of the existing tracks. Michels used terrain cranes equipped with telescoping handlers to install and remove the internal bracing.
