Mitchell Interchange

Scope

Michels managed the construction of the Mitchell Interchange reconstruction mega project as part of a joint venture. The Mitchell Interchange is one of the busiest interchanges in the state of Wisconsin. Project time constraints required Michels to perform multiple paving operations simultaneously while under traffic. The project consisted of 14 miles of 24-foot wide mainline paving which included paving three tunnel floors, 18 miles of 12-foot shoulder, and three miles of ramps. The project received the Special Recognition Award in the Mega Projects category from the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association.
