Municipal Water Main Replacement Program
- LocationSanta Monica, California
- TimelineFebruary 2019 - February 2021
Michels replaced municipal water mains on ten thoroughfares. The project was performed on busy city and residential streets, so managing traffic control was crucial to ensure the safety of everyone on and around the site.
Approximately 7,400 feet of pipe ranging from 8-inch PVC to 16-inch Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) were installed. The project also included the installation of new fire hydrants, 190 service connections including chlorination and testing, and 50 gate valve installations. Michels also worked closely with a local utility provider to relocate a 10-inch natural gas pipe.
The project also included an emergency replacement of 1,300 feet of 12-inch C900 PVC pipe along Ocean Avenue, between Wilshire Boulevard and Washington Avenue.
