Scope

Michels installed 77 caissons on a small site along the Chicago River in downtown Chicago. The caissons ranged in diameter from 4 to 6 feet and were drilled to an average depth of 90 feet. The caissons will support a 1.5-acre elevated park adjacent to a 45-story office tower, which will be built next year. The work site was tucked between the Chicago River and crossed five active commuter rail lines in the Chicago Loop area. Michels also designed and built a 570-foot section of river wall along the Chicago River. The site was in a highly visible location in a heavily traveled section of the river. Some of the work was done on land, but most was done from a spud barge.
