Scope

Michels Road & Stone, Inc. was the concrete paving subcontractor for the construction of the Highway 26 Janesville - Fort Atkinson Road Interchange Project. The project consisted of constructing 10 miles of 26-foot wide rural concrete pavement, which includes ramps, lanes, and mainline. The concrete pavement was approximately 165,000 square yards, and all concrete for the highway construction was mixed at a Michels Road & Stone's batch plant located on site. Michels Road & Stone also provided over 250,000 tons of dense base material prior to paving.

Michels simultaneously rebuilding and widening a 4.4-mile Central and 6.7-mile South segment of the project on a heavily traveled route linking between Chicago and Milwaukee. The roadway is being expanded from three lanes in each direction to four lanes plus widened shoulders.

Michels was the prime contractor for a reconstruction at the Kenosha Regional Airport. Michels performed all excavation, pipe underdrain, aggregate placing, concrete pavement, and topsoil operations to completely reconstruct and extend the main east/west runway and taxiway for the
airport. The runway was extended 1,100 feet to allow for larger aircraft to safely land and take off.

Michels built 4.3 miles of stone dike ranging from 4 to 8 feet high on the Green Bay lake bed to reconstruct the Cat Islands Chain.
