Transmission Line ACR Foundations

Scope

Michels Power, Inc. built 15 caissons and completed 12 direct embed installations for structures on a 345kV electrical power transmission line. The caissons ranged in diameter from 8 to 9 feet and were drilled 25 feet deep. The direct embed foundations were 3.5 feet in diameter and 10 to 15 feet deep. The project was completed in challenging working and ground conditions. Michels used an air hammer to drill in hard rock.

Michels Power, Inc. installed 642 foundations under existing energized 500kV transmission lines. The terrain was flat and crews occasionally worked in wet land conditions, with wildlife such as snakes and alligators prevalent.
