Railway Work

Direct Pipe

Proven to be Successful

The Direct Pipe methodology is a desirable option in circumstances where pipeline construction plans intersect existing railroad tracks.

Michels is at the forefront of this one-pass pipeline construction method that combines aspects of horizontal directional drilling and tunneling. The advantages include a continuously supported borehole, accurate steering and minimal risk of inadvertent fluid returns.

Additionally, Michels has successfully completed Direct Pipe installations under and adjacent to railroad tracks and is adept at meeting or exceeding all safety regulations required by customers, railways and regulatory authorities.

Projects

Michels completed the 790 foot installation of a 42-inch steel pipeline for the Mariner East II project utilizing the Direct Pipe method.
