Assessments & Analysis

With our decades of experience and a drive to expand the limits of what can be achieved, we help customers develop safe, affordable, technically sound plans. Our assessment and analysis services are based on our earned understanding of geological conditions, machinery capabilities, risk factors, and more. Our team has worked on some of the world’s most challenging projects, gathering information to optimize designs and minimize risks on jobs of all sizes.

Feasibility Assessments

After a trenchless crossing has been proposed, we dig in to determine if the crossing is possible and evaluate which techniques offer the greatest advantages for success. We use our expertise in current and emerging trenchless tools and techniques, available data and experience with similar projects, and knowledge of previously completed installations during our analysis.

Our techniques include:

  • Evaluating Geotechnical Data & Site Conditions
  • Determining Constructability
  • Identifying Risks & Mitigation Measures
  • Providing Recommendations

Pipe Stress Analysis

Loads imposed during pipeline installation process can exceed those during its operation. We perform detailed pipe stress analysis to confirm selected pipe specifications can withstand installation loads as well as operating loads or make recommendations of an alternative specification capable of passing the test. Our experience also allows us to support clients with design and analysis of downhole components and preparation of pipe handling procedures.

Hydrofracture Analysis

One of the big advantages of trenchless construction is its ability to reduce environmental impact, particularly in environmentally sensitive areas. Because this is too important to be left to chance, we analyze the potential for drilling fluid to inadvertently reach the surface due to hydrofracture. We determine the annular pressure needed to conduct various trenchless applications when investigating if the soils surrounding the proposed drill path have the capacity to contain all drilling fluid.

Construction Cost Estimating

We know that feasibility is not the only factor in determining a project’s viability. We use value engineering and decades of international project experience to minimize risks and costs. When beneficial to our customers, our trenchless project designs include current cost estimates and multiple trenchless construction methods.

Storm Services & Damage Assessment

During severe weather events, our goal is to identify immediate safety concerns and quickly restore power to communities.

Our response is completed in three phases, the first of which happens before the severe weather event occurs. We conduct field inspections of each feeder in the client’s system. After the storm, we implement the second phase to reinspect each feeder for possible broken or loose hardware, cracked insulation, proper use of splices, and damaged or leaking transformers. The third assessment is a nighttime streetlight audit, during which we capture detailed notes using real-time GPS data.

Our techniques include:

  • Documentation of Daily Meetings
  • Daily Timesheets
  • All Markups of Feeder & Circuit Maps
  • Photos for Documentation of Damaged Facilities
  • Physical & Digital Bill of Materials
  • GPS Collection of Field Data

Design Reviews

Our engineers and design team are experts in design principles, subsurface conditions, environmental goals, and contractor and machine capabilities. In addition, we have worked on some of the most challenging and important trenchless projects in the world. This unique, focused concentration allows us to provide third-party design review services resulting in creative, practical options for improving a design by reducing risk and/or cost.
