Tallgrass Geotech

The combined Michels/J.D. Hair project team performed a geotechnical investigation supporting a proposed 10,000-linear-foot pipeline installation, drilling and sampling three borings to depths of 300 feet with continuous soil and rock sampling and standard penetration testing (SPT) at 20-foot intervals to evaluate subsurface conditions. All work followed relevant geotechnical standards to guide design and construction. Sonic drilling was selected to evaluate subsurface conditions. Drillling mud was added where required to stabilize boreholes and allow SPT sampling in saturated and very loose to medium-dense sands. Our team procured all drilling materials, ensuring consistent progress and efficient field operations.

This project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule despite numerous challenges, including shifting borehole locations and changes to temporary construction easements (TCEs). The team adapted quickly to overcome these obstacles, employing multiple drilling methods to overcome technical issues such as loss of feedback during drilling.
