Wooden Pole Replacement Project

Michels Pacific Energy, Inc. utilized a Blackhawk helicopter when replacing two aging wooden poles with steel structures on top of a large hill on an Air Force base near Pismo Beach, CA. Because the terrain near the location of the new poles was too uneven to allow trucks to haul them into place, Michels Pacific Energy attached them to the helicopter and flew them into place.

Once the new structures were in place, the crew transferred conductors from the wooden structures to the steel ones. The helicopter took the wooden poles back to the landing zone at the bottom of the hill.
