Trenchless Rehabilitation of Corrugated Metal Storm Sewers

Located within and adjacent to the Mississauga Golf and Country Club, this storm sewer project presented unique challenges of being along a steep ravine within the Credit River Conservation Authority between an upscale neighborhood and one of the most exclusive golf courses in the Greater Toronto Area.

The project called for the rehabilitation of six corrugated metal storm sewers up to 2100 millimetres in diameter, totaling 729 metres. Michels Canada used a combination of two trenchless rehabilitation techniques to fix immediate issues and extend the life of the underground pipes with minimal digging and disruptions.

The team used cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liners for smaller diameter pipes on the steepest slopes to avoid having crew members work on particularly uneven terrain. The rest of the storm drain was rehabilitated with a geopolymer spray-in-place pipe (SIPP) application. The crew also replaced a 2400-mm inlet structure, restored a natural channel and completed the civil restoration of a failed valley slope.
