Truth & Reconciliation Awareness Week

September 24- 30, 2023

This week, we bring awareness to the upcoming National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which takes place on Saturday, September 30. The day honours Indigenous Children who never returned home and the Indigenous Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public awareness and commemoration of residential schools’ tragic history and ongoing impacts are essential to the reconciliation process.

With the help of our Indigenous Relations Team, we are coordinating events and educational moments for our people at Michels Canada. We are encouraging our staff across Canada to honour the tragic loss of life and the survivors of the residential school system by wearing an orange shirt or orange shirt lapel pin during this week of awareness.

Orange Shirt Day is a grassroots initiative that calls for every Canadian to wear an orange shirt on September 30 in the spirit of healing and reconciliation. Wearing an orange shirt shows recognition of the experience of those who went to residential schools, honouring them and showing a collective commitment to ensure that Every Child Matters.
