Three articles published by the Milwaukee Business Journal explore Michels’ impact in Wisconsin and beyond.
The series emphasizes not only our contributions to completed projects, but also the varied employment opportunities at Michels:
How one construction company is building Milwaukee’s backbone
When people think of Milwaukee, “infrastructure” might not be the first word that comes to mind.
But it should be.
Infrastructure is the backbone of every thriving community, shaping how people live, move, and connect. At Michels Corporation, a Wisconsin-based energy infrastructure leader with global reach, building and maintaining that backbone is a mission.
Michels invests in next generation with powerful internship program
One of the world’s largest energy and infrastructure contractors welcomed nearly 150 college interns to its headquarters in Brownsville, WI, this summer.
Michels Corporation kicked off orientation for its record-high number of interns with a keynote delivered by members of the Michels family. The two-day event consisted of programming, networking and socializing opportunities to prepare the students before they departed for a wide assortment of engaging experiences across the United States—and beyond.
Mino Elze, a mechanical engineering student at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, will spend the summer in Germany.
Construction career paths capitalize on variety, opportunity at Michels
For a corporation that specializes in horizontal construction, it might be no surprise that careers at Michels aren’t strictly vertical.
In fact, the occupational progressions of Michels’ more than 7,000 employees are as varied as the diverse disciplines that encompass craft, trade, technical, and professional positions. The sheer size of Michels has much to do with that. What started in the late 1950s as a regional natural gas distribution contractor headquartered in Brownsville, Wis, has grown strategically to serve industries throughout the infrastructure and energy sectors.
Today, Michels boasts more than 50 offices in the United States and operations in Canada, Australia, and Europe. That spells plenty of opportunities for job seekers of all ages and experience levels, including the next generation of the workforce.
Be part of something big
Michels is growing fast. We have a variety of hands-on, high-impact opportunities for craft and trade careers, professional office positions, and youth apprenticeships and internships.
