Penn’s Landing Dredging

Michels Construction, Inc. removed approximately 15,000 cubic yards of sediment and debris from a busy slip on the Delaware River to improve use for boaters within the area of Penn’s Landing and Marina in Philadelphia.

Michels used our customized dredge, Providence, to pump material through an 8-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe. A tugboat and scows transported material to a designated disposal facility. The project team worked without incident to complete the project within the customer’s required window. Dredging this portion of the Delaware River helped relieve the limited ability of boaters to navigate particular parts of the river and docks.

The project team worked 24/7 to accomplish the customer’s goal of allowing visitors and larger pleasure boats to have the option and ability to dock by the Independence Seaport Museum and enjoy the Philadelphia Old City District.
