An urban Direct Pipe project runs under a busy road.

North Pottstown Pike Direct Pipe

Michels Trenchless, Inc. employed Direct Pipe® to install approximately 860 feet of 48-inch steel pipeline underneath the North Pottstown Pike/Highway 100 to serve as a conduit for a 16-inch and 20-inch product pipeline on the Mariner East II Pipeline Project.
Given soils present and the highway close by, horizontal directional drilling would have created a larger risk for ground settlement. Direct Pipe® was the chosen method due to its smaller footprint and ability to install pipelines shallower. The project was in a commercialized suburban environment.
