J.D. Hair & Associates, Inc. (JDH&A) and Michels teamed up with Stantec, an engineering and consulting firm, to update introductory course materials for the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT).
Curriculum updates include introductory books associated with two of NASTT’s Good Practices Courses: New Installation Methods and Rehabilitation Methods. Each course has an associated online training module that will also receive updates. Changes to the publications will include updates to existing chapters as well as the addition of other trenchless methods not previously included in the original publications, such as direct steerable pipe thrusting.
“Our team has a fantastic opportunity to bring our expertise and experience to publications sponsored by a leading organization in the trenchless industry,” said Austin Miller, JDH&A Project Manager. “The team we have assembled includes professionals who have authored other principal design guides as well as people who have constructed some of the more complex jobs the trenchless industry has seen.”
Austin serves as the project manager for the new installations portion while Program Engineer Mike Figlio of Michels Trenchless serves as the project manager for the rehabilitation portion. Austin and Mike oversee their respective groups of subject matter experts as well as facilitate meetings and discussions between the project team and NASTT.
NASTT’s courses can be taken by anyone in the trenchless industry, ranging from college students to recent graduates to professionals who are interested in learning more about trenchless technology, and are available for private, on-site, or virtual training. Licensed professionals earn continuing education units (CEUs) for their participation.
A member of the Michels Family of Companies, JDH&A has defined the industry standard for engineering excellence in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) for more than 35 years by focusing exclusively on trenchless installations, providing clients with practical solutions to expand trenchless infrastructure techniques and capabilities.
The new courses will be offered at the 2025 No-Dig North conference Oct. 27–30 in Vancouver, BC. Specific dates and times for upcoming courses will be announced soon at https://nastt.org/training/upcoming-events/.
