Construction Achievement Project of the Year

Mill Basin Bridge project near completion in New York.

ASCE, NYSSPE recognize NY bridge as Top Project

Michels recently received two top awards for reconstructing the Mill Basin Bridge in Brooklyn. The Mill Basin Bridge is one of seven bridges on the Belt Parkway reconstruction project, which received the 2018-2019 Construction Achievement Project of the Year Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Metropolitan Section and the 2019 Project of the Year Award from the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE).

Congratulations to the team for executing a challenging, high-profile project to remove a 76-year-old drawbridge and replace it with a permanent stationary bridge with twice the clearance for marine traffic. Michels is part of a two-party joint venture hired for the project.

The $700 million Belt Parkway reconstruction project improves New York’s transportation infrastructure by connecting highways around the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens.

The Mill Basin Bridge project was completed two years ahead of schedule.
