No-Dig 2026 Preview

The largest trenchless industry event is nearly upon us! Our people are looking forward to sharing their expertise and connecting with others across the industry.

The North American Society for Trenchless Technology’s 2026 No-Dig Show will be held March 29–April 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, CA. Michels is a platinum sponsor, and our people have a history of active involvement with the organization, including presenting papers at the annual No-Dig Show.

This year, Michels’ experts will present five papers to propel the industry forward:

  • Matt Smith, Michels Trenchless President, and Tom Forconi, Director of HDD Strategy & Optimization, will present “Advanced Trenchless Construction for the CVOW Project” at 2:30 p.m. PT on March 30.
  • Alan Goodman, Senior Manager of Business, will present “Advances in SIPP Design and Service Capabilities” at 3 p.m. PT on March 30.
  • Tucker Toelke, Director of Alternative Delivery, and Eli Vanderwagen, Assistant Project Manager, will present “Collaborative Solutions for Complex Infrastructure: Trenchless Delivery of the Tri-City WRRF Outfall” at 9:30 a.m. PT on March 31.
  • Tucker Toelke, Director of Alternative Delivery, and Francisco Jimenez Esquivel, Field Engineer, are co-presenting “Innovative Trenchless Technologies Allow for the Successful Crossing of the Willamette River” at 10:30 a.m. PT on March 31.
  • Matt Smith, Michels Trenchless President, will present “Trenchless Technology New Installation Project of the Year: Champlain Hudson Power Express® (CHPE) Terrestrial Project – Trenchless Crossings” at 1 p.m. PT on March 31.

Michels will receive three awards during this year’s show:

  1. The Champlain Hudson Power Express® terrestrial crossings project was named a No-Dig 2026 Project of the Year: Winner (New Installation). The underground power transmission project was designed to deliver 1,250 megawatts of clean hydropower from Canada to New York City and included more than 300 HDD bores along the terrestrial route.
  2. The Portland UG Network Willamette River Crossing (HDD) project was named a No-Dig 2026 Project of the Year: Runner-Up (New Installation). With our partner, AECOM, we developed an innovative solution to advance large-diameter casing to support two HDD operations beneath the Willamette River.
  3. The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) trenchless crossing project was recognized with the No-Dig 2026 Project of the Year: Honorable Mention (New Installation) award. We used two trenchless methodologies to construct landfalls and trenchless crossings of environmentally sensitive areas to provide electrical conduits for the 176-turbine (2.6-gigawatt) wind farm located 24 nautical miles off the coast of Virginia.
