Scope
Michels performed work in a two-party joint venture for the removal of an existing drawbridge and replacement with a permanent bridge that has twice the clearance for marine traffic. Michels' work includes demolition and removal of existing draw bridge; installation of steel piles on both land and water, all of which ranged in length from 80 to 120 feet; construction of two abutments and 16 piers; construction of four large cofferdams formed by interlocking steel sheets and 36-inch hollow steel concrete-filled piles; and installation of 2,700 linear feet of cast-in-place decks. Wetlands protection incorporated into all phases of construction. The project is anticipated to be completed one year ahead of schedule.
