Dusable Park Seawall

Michels Construction, Inc. replaced a deteriorating seawall with a steel sheet pile seawall wall at a park parcel on the Lake Michigan shoreline. In addition to the sea wall and anchoring deadman sheeting system, the project included clearing and grubbing, mass excavation for the deadman sheeting, waler and tie rods, backfill, landscaping and precast concrete cap, and timber fender on the river sheeting wall.

The parcel in the heart of the city was adjacent to several other large construction projects, making it difficult to deliver truckloads of materials. Daily collaboration was needed with other contractors to complete work efficiently and safely. Working next to water also required implementation of safety precautions.

The project included removal of hazardous materials, such as thorium, from excavation. Employees and subcontractors completed additional training to safely handle these materials.
