Tinicum Island Road Auger Bore
Michels Trenchless, Inc. used the guided auger bore method to install 280 feet of 16-inch steel pipeline under Tinicum Island Road, an access road adjacent to the Philadelphia International Airport.
The new pipe replaced an existing line of the same size that was reaching the end of its useful life cycle. The project was relocated the pipeline in advance of a major reconstruction project on Tinicum Island Road.
The auger bore advanced below the water table and through silt soil with traces of clay. These conditions yielded a “sticky” bore hole, which the crew was able to navigate.
