Students explore construction careers

About 125 Wisconsin high school students built a better understanding of the diverse construction career opportunities at Michels’ corporate headquarters on May 7.

Attendees of our annual Career Exploration Day chose between career paths, exploring professional and office positions or trades and field opportunities. The event combined candid conversation and up-close encounters with equipment and people, covering a wide variety of career options in the construction industry.

While some students connected with representatives from our human resources, marketing, information technology, purchasing, transportation, risk, legal and finance teams, many others explored our Brownsville, WI yard and experienced close-up demonstrations that included:

  • Working with power lines and utility equipment
  • Drone piloting, pulling and photography
  • Using virtual reality for preconstruction purposes
  • Welding customized equipment
  • Diving and performing other marine services
  • Fusing and other work with gas distribution pipes
  • Driving and managing logistics of heavy equipment
  • Aggregate crushing and managing quarry operations

Each year, Career Exploration Day introduces the next generation to paths that might not otherwise be on their radar, exposing them to a wide array of occupations that provide quick entry into the workforce, job security, great earning potential, the chance to learn as you earn, job satisfaction from hands-on work, and plenty of opportunities for advancement.

The students also learn the variety of ways they can take advantage of what Michels has to offer, including summer seasonal positions, youth apprenticeships, internships as well as post-graduation employment.

Discover temporary, part-time and full-time positions at Michels.
